How Do You View: How do you View Yourself

We continued our How Do You View…? series by considering a question that impacts every area of our lives:

How do you view yourself?

Whether we realize it or not, every day we are looking into mirrors that tell us who we are.

Some of us look into the mirror of accomplishment and success.
Others look into the mirror of failure and regret.
Some seek identity through the approval of others.
Others carry wounds from words spoken over them years ago.

The challenge is that these mirrors often distort reality.

God never intended for our identity to be determined by our performance, our past, or the opinions of others.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that in Christ we are a new creation. Through His grace we have been forgiven, adopted, loved, redeemed, and called. The Gospel does not simply change our destination; it changes our identity.

One of the key truths from Sunday’s message was this:

Humility is not thinking less of yourself. Humility is agreeing with God about who He is and who you are because of Him.

As followers of Jesus, spiritual formation is the lifelong process of allowing God’s truth to reshape how we see ourselves. The more clearly we see Him, the more accurately we see ourselves.

This week let’s reject the false mirrors of this world and learn to see ourselves through the truth of God’s Word.

Weekly Challenge: I am who God says I AM!

Each morning this week, before checking your phone, email, or social media, spend five minutes with God and read one of these passages:

Monday – Romans 8:1
Tuesday – Romans 8:15
Wednesday – Romans 5:8
Thursday – Ephesians 2:10
Friday – 2 Corinthians 5:17

After reading the verse, ask yourself:

“What does this passage teach me about who God says I am?”

Then complete this sentence in prayer:

“Father, help me see myself as __________________________.”

As the week progresses, pay attention to moments when your identity is being shaped by performance, comparison, approval, or past failures. When those moments arise, intentionally replace those thoughts with the truth of Scripture.
