Church of the Valley is a multi-cultural, multi-generational Christian body of believers in the San Francisco Bay Area city of San Ramon. We strive to live out our vision through ministry programs for people of all ages. We have a vision to reach children and families for Christ through the building of a daycare and education facility on our campus.


The Senior Pastor shall lead the Church to accomplish its purpose by teaching and preaching biblical truth and providing vision. The Senior Pastor reports to the Elder Board and serves as a member. The Pastor shall lead the Staff by directing them in their area of management of Church operations. The Pastor shall direct the Deacons in their duties of pastoral care. The Pastor shall be responsible for creation, implementation and execution of the approved Church budget.


The Pastor shall be accountable to the Board in the implementation of his job description, long-range goals, strategies of the Church, and efficient use of the funds allotted for spending.


 Preach and teach the word of God.

 Develop the long-range vision for the church.

 Develop the strategies to accomplish the vision for the church.

 Hire the staff to carry out the strategies and to accomplish the vision.

 Develop and grow the staff by mentoring and investing in them.

 Hold staff accountable for managing their job responsibilities while caring for their personal lives and families.

 Protect the unity of the church.

 Develop, equip, encourage and grow lay leaders by meeting with them regularly.

 Connect with other evangelical churches in the San Ramon Valley for prayer and strategizing of how to reach the valley for Christ.

 Manage the new members process

 Build a healthy spirit lead church by:

 Emphasizing worship as a way of life for every member and attender.

 Ensuring that every member has a ministry.

 Expecting every member to be trained in how to share the good news of Jesus

 Christ/making sure that the congregation knows that evangelism will be a major thrust of all we do.

 Enable the fellowship of the church by connecting members into a community of small groups.

 Encourage each member to experience the joy of discipleship.

 Foster the spiritual growth of the congregation by emphasizing the need for daily bible reading, prayer and a quiet time.


A bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field is required, and ordination with formal theological training is highly preferred for this role.


 Be in full agreement with the Church of the Valley’s mission, vision, and core beliefs.

 Meet the qualifications of an Elder (1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus 1:6-9).

 Five years or more of experience preaching and leading in churches.

 Excellent communicator. Comfortable in interacting with multi-national congregation.

 Proven track record of growth.

 Able to lead, energize and manage staff in a healthy way without micromanagement, but with mentoring, guidance, accountability and encouragement.

 Be a team builder who is able to work effectively with the community, ministry teams and lay ministry leaders.

 Have skills including organization, innovation, preaching, teaching, leader development, and designing ministry programs.

 Strong work ethic and behaviors consistent with the COV Leadership values, vows and commitments.
